In short

  • Fresha is a solid choice with low entry prices and a large marketplace, but new-client fees and per-member pricing push some nail salons to look elsewhere.
  • Compare four things: the monthly price for your real team size, marketplace commissions, card processing fees, and who owns the client relationship.
  • Before you switch, export your clients and services, then move your booking link in your Instagram bio and Google Business Profile on the same day.

Why nail salons look for a Fresha alternative

Fresha deserves its popularity. Its entry plans are cheap, the calendar is easy to learn and its marketplace brings clients who search for a salon nearby. For a lot of salons it is the right tool.

The reasons owners start comparing usually come later, once the salon is busy:

  • New-client fees. According to Fresha's help center, a client who finds you through the Fresha marketplace for the first time costs a one-time fee of 20% of that booking, with a $6 minimum. Bookings through your own referral link are excluded.
  • Per-member pricing. On the Team plan you pay per team member, so the bill grows with every technician you hire.
  • Owning the relationship. Clients who book through a marketplace see other salons on the same screen.
  • Payment lock-in. Some features work best when you also process cards through the same provider.

None of these is a dealbreaker on its own. Together they are worth a calculation.

What to compare before you switch

  1. 1Write down your team size today and in a year.
  2. 2Estimate how many new clients per month come from a marketplace and how many from Instagram, Google and word of mouth.
  3. 3Add the monthly subscription, any per-staff fee and any new-client commission.
  4. 4Check card processing fees if you take payments in the app.
  5. 5Ask how you can export your client list if you leave.

Fresha in numbers

On Fresha's pricing page, the Independent plan is $19.95 per month and the Team plan is $14.95 per team member per month. Enterprise is priced on request. On top of that come the marketplace new-client fee described above and card processing if you use Fresha payments.

The alternatives

Booksy

Booksy Biz in the US is $29.99 per month plus $20 per month for each additional user. Its optional Boost feature takes a one-time 30% of a new client's first visit, capped at $100. Booksy has its own consumer marketplace and card readers. Good fit: salons that want marketplace exposure and are fine paying per staff member.

Vagaro

Vagaro starts at $23.99 per month for the first six months, then $30, plus $10 for each bookable calendar up to seven; staff beyond that are free. It operates in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia. Good fit: growing teams in those countries that want a full suite.

GlossGenius

GlossGenius has three plans: Standard $24, Gold $48 and Platinum $148 per month, billed annually, with a 14-day trial without a card. Card processing is a flat 2.6%. There is no new-client marketplace fee. Good fit: solo artists and small studios in the US who care about a polished client experience.

Square Appointments

Square Appointments has a Free plan, Plus at $49 and Premium at $149 per location per month, so you pay per location rather than per staff member. Processing on the Free plan is 2.6% + 15¢ in person and 3.3% + 30¢ online. There is no marketplace. Good fit: salons that already use Square for payments.

Treatwell

Treatwell is strong in the UK and Europe. Its UK page lists plans as free to start. A new client's first booking through the Treatwell marketplace costs 35% commission plus VAT, repeat clients cost 0%, and new clients who book through your own website, Facebook or Instagram are commission-free. Good fit: salons that want marketplace demand and can price for the commission.

CutieCure Salon

CutieCure Salon is built for nail salons and charges a flat subscription with no per-booking commission: Basic $29.99 per month for one team member, Pro $39.99 for up to five, Enterprise $99.99. Yearly billing costs ten times the monthly price. Every salon gets an online booking link where clients book with a name and phone number, no account needed, and bookings arrive as pending for you to confirm. You also get a website booking widget with optional AI hand analysis and virtual nail try-on, per-technician availability with "anyone available", services and packages, VIP customer groups and campaign codes, and reports on booking sources and staff performance. Good fit: nail salons that bring their own clients from Instagram and Google and want predictable costs.

Where CutieCure Salon is not the right choice

To be fair about it: CutieCure is a newer product. Its client app, CutieCure Book, has a much smaller audience than the Fresha, Booksy or Treatwell marketplaces, so it will not send you a stream of new clients yet. It also has no built-in card payments, deposits or point of sale. If marketplace demand or in-app payments are your main need, one of the tools above will serve you better today.

Migration checklist

  1. 1Export your client list (name, phone, email, notes) from your current tool.
  2. 2Write down your services with durations and prices, and your packages.
  3. 3Set up the new tool and make one test booking from your phone as a client would.
  4. 4Move existing future appointments, or keep the old calendar open until they are done.
  5. 5On the same day, replace the booking link in your Instagram bio and your Google Business Profile.
  6. 6Tell regular clients about the new link in your next message or story.

With CutieCure, you can add clients and services in the dashboard. If you have a large list, write to support@cutiecure.app and we will help. For setting up the booking link and widget, see online booking for nail salons and how to choose nail salon software.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest alternative to Fresha?

Square Appointments has a free plan, and GlossGenius starts at $24 per month billed annually. The cheapest option depends on your team size and card volume, so add up subscription, per-staff fees and processing for your own numbers.

Which alternatives charge no new-client commission?

GlossGenius, Square Appointments and CutieCure Salon do not charge a marketplace new-client fee. Booksy's Boost fee is optional. Treatwell charges 35% plus VAT on a new client's first marketplace booking.

Will I lose clients if I leave a marketplace?

You keep the clients who already know you, as long as you export your list and update your booking link everywhere. You may lose some new-client discovery from the marketplace, so compare that against what you save in fees.

Does CutieCure Salon take card payments?

Not yet. CutieCure Salon handles online booking, the team calendar, clients, services and campaigns. Payment is taken in the salon as you do today.

Can I try CutieCure Salon before switching?

Yes. Every new salon gets a 14-day free trial without a card, including 5 AI credits, so you can test bookings before moving your link.

Put this into practice with CutieCure Salon
