How to tell clients about a price increase: message templates

A good price increase message says what changes, what the new price is and from which date, briefly and calmly, without a long apology. Give clients a few weeks' notice and tell your regulars personally; the templates below cover a general announcement, regular clients, a single service, a version with the reason and a short notice for your salon or Instagram story.

Updated

When to send it

  • Two to four weeks before the new prices start, so clients can plan and book.
  • To regular clients personally, before or together with the public notice.
  • In the salon, on your price list and booking page, from the day you announce it.
  • Never for the first time at checkout on the day the new prices start.

Templates to copy

Replace the parts in {curly braces} before sending.

  1. General announcement

Hi {name}, a quick update from {salon}: from {date}, our prices will change. The new price for {service} will be {new price}. Until then, everything stays as it is. Thank you for your support!

  2. Regular clients

Hi {name}, I wanted to tell you personally first: from {date}, {service} will be {new price}. Thank you so much for coming to me all this time, it really means a lot. If you'd like to book before then, just let me know.

  3. Single service

Hi {name}, a small change at {salon}: from {date}, {service} will cost {new price} instead of {old price}. All our other prices stay the same.

  4. With the reason

Hi {name}, from {date} our prices will be updated, as the cost of our products has gone up. {service} will be {new price}. We'll keep using the same quality products and giving you the same care. See you soon!

  5. Salon notice or story

    New prices from {date}. Thank you for your continued support! The full price list is at the desk and on our booking page: {booking link}

Tips for writing it

  • Always give the date and the new price; a vague message creates more questions than the increase itself.
  • Keep the reason to one sentence, or leave it out; you do not need to apologise for pricing your work.
  • Update your menu, price list and booking page on the same day you send the message.
  • Agree with your team on one answer if a client asks about it, so everyone says the same thing.

Questions

How much notice should a nail salon give before raising prices?

Two to four weeks is fair. It gives clients time to plan and lets regulars book once more at the current price if they want to.

Should I explain why I am raising prices?

A short reason is fine, such as higher product costs or new training, but keep it to one sentence. Long explanations sound like an apology.

Should regular clients keep the old price?

That is your choice. You can keep it for them for a short time as a thank-you, but one clear date for everyone is simpler to manage.
